It is important to compare and agree a deal for your business energy whenever your current agreement with a supplier is coming to an end or if you are entering a new premises.
If you let your current electricity or gas deal end without agreeing a new deal, then you will automatically be put onto out of contract rates by your supplier, which means that you will end up paying much more than you should be for your energy bills.
Given your business uses a certain amount of energy, how much you pay for that energy depends on a number of factors:
Getting the best electricity and gas tariff will definitely help you save money on your energy bills as will improving the energy efficiency of your business premises.
There is no one size fits all, which is one of the reasons to use our price comparison service where we can analyse your usage and find the best deal for your business electricity and gas.
The Big 6 energy suppliers, such as British Gas and Eon, are the most well established and trusted brands for supplying business energy.
Historically these large energy suppliers have supplied the majority of the business energy market, however there are more and more independent smaller energy suppliers that are now competing on both price and service.
Biggest isn’t always best, and as part of our comparison service we consider a wide range of energy suppliers, large and small to give you the best options for your business.
The big six energy companies are still the the biggest players in the business energy market, however there are many smaller independent energy suppliers that are offering attractive alternative choices for businesses of all sizes and types.
The larger energy companies have built up excellent reputations and trust over a number of years, however it is often the case that some newer independent suppliers can offer more attractive prices and even better service to business customers.
We consider all suppliers, large and small, when analysing and recommending energy offers for your business and are happy to talk you through any concerns you may have about going with a smaller brand vs one of the traditional big six.
Business energy contract switches are not as straightforward as those for domestic electricity and gas.
In order to switch your business energy contracts, we need some information about your property’s energy supply. The key information is the MPAN or MPRN numbers for your business premises. These are unique reference numbers used by energy suppliers to identify the electricity and gas supply for your business property.
Your MPAN and MPRN can be found on your existing gas or electricity bills, but if you don’t have it to hand it’s not a problem because we can use your postcode to get hold of this information ourselves, saving you the time and hassle and making the switch much simpler.
In order for us to compare tariffs and speak to energy supplier on our behalf to get the best energy deals we will need a signed Letter Of Authority (LOA). This is simply an agreement to say that we can negotiate with energy suppliers on your behalf and gives us permission to terminate any existing energy agreements and manage the switch over to your new deal.
If you are looking to switch your business energy supplier, then you need to do this within your current energy contract’s notice period which is often called the switching window.
The switching window usually opens around a month before your current energy agreement’s end date, but will depend on your supplier.
Don’t worry if you don’t know the contract end date or when the switching window opens on your current business energy agreement, we can get in touch with your supplier to get all of this information.
Be careful though – suppliers often won’t be very open about when you can switch, as they may prefer you to roll onto their more expensive out of contract rates rather than getting you a better deal.
We make sure this doesn’t happen as we keep an eye on all of out customers’ energy contract end dates to ensure that we manage their switch to better deals seamlessly.
If you’re not currently in a contract with an energy supplier, you can switch straight away and it should take between 2-3 weeks.
If you are in a contract, you can still start looking for new deals before that contract ends. Once you’ve found a deal you’re happy with you can let your new supplier know the end date of your current contract and they should begin your new energy supply the day after your existing contract ends.
We can help find you the best available deals and handle all of this communication with your existing and new energy suppliers on your behalf so that the switch is quick and easy.
Why use an energy broker to sort your business electricity and gas supply? In theory you could do all the legwork yourself, but there are good reasons to go with an experienced energy professional:
